7 Best Face Moisturizers for Acne Prone Skin to Unclog Pores

Finding the best face moisturizer for acne prone skin is such an enormous problem. Obviously, I want to keep the oil on my face to a minimum, in order to prevent breakouts. But my skin still needs hydration, so I need a moisturizer that will provide that without adding oil or other ingredients that will clog my pores.

Fortunately, that is not an impossible dream. I went on a quest to find the best product in this category, and managed to narrow my choices down to seven.

Some target other objectives, such as non-greasy hydration, which is available in a variety of price ranges. However, I do want to point out that the size and length of use needs to be considered when looking at the price.

If I find products that are more or less equally effective, then I look at the price per use value. A thick cream or tiny bottle of serum may cost more, but last longer, than a bottle of lotion. And that may bring them all to almost the same price per use.

Face Moisturizer for Acne Prone Skin Reviews in 2018

Cetaphil Dermacontrol Moisturizer SPF 30

Cetaphil is one of the most respected names in skin care, so there is no question their products will be effective. This particular one has been formulated specifically for acne prone skin, in order to accomplish 3 objectives:

  • Hydrate
  • Control oil
  • Act as sunscreen by providing broad-spectrum UVA/UVB protection
  • It’s both fragrance and paraben free, and won’t clog pores.

And here’s the kicker. Not only does it reduce roughness and dryness in users with acne prescription treatments, but Cetaphil SPF 30 also uses micropearl technology to produce a matte finish.

So no more shiny face!

Since the face moisturizer also acts as a nice, strong sunscreen, I think it has to be considered an excellent value for money and it is the best face moisturizer for oily acne prone skin.

Era Organics Complete

This face product promises deep hydration that will also repair and protect your skin. Reviews of this product are overwhelmingly positive, so the combination of vitamins and organic nutrients must be powerfully effective.

The hydration is because this face cream moisturizes past the surface of the skin to the very base of it. It is a non-greasy formula lasting 8 to 12 hours at a time, and leaving no residue.

It won’t clog pores and, amazingly, is suitable for ALL skin types. Plus, it’s safe to use on all parts of the body. Users have raved about this product and posted incredible before and after photos on Amazon.

Best of all, a very small amount of this face moisturizer is enough to instantly soothe damaged or dry skin. So although this is one of the pricier products on this list, it should still last quite a while, which may bring it fairly close in value to those on the lower end of the spectrum.

CeraVe Moisturizing Lotion

This lotion was created by dermatologists and offers a couple of very noteworthy aspects.

  • It contains MVE technology, which allows the nourishing ingredients to be released into your skin gradually. That means our skin will remain hydrated all day long.
  • It penetrates deeply into the skin without any greasy residue, and that restores balance to it.
  • This is quite a decent sized 12 oz bottle, which makes it an incredible value, particularly if you are able to get it for under $10.

A mind-boggling 81% of Amazon reviewers gave this product 5 stars. I think that says a lot on its own.

Neutrogena Oil-Free Moisture Sensitive Skin

Neutrogena is another icon in the skin care industry, and with good reason. The company is renowned for creating effective products at reasonable prices, and this one is no exception.

This oil-free moisturizer is a lightweight, water-based formula that eliminates dryness without leaving skin greasy or shiny. The key to this product is that it absorbs quickly, so it won’t clog pores, which is what causes breakouts.

Not surprisingly, buyers are generally thrilled with this lotion, because it provides as much benefit as higher priced items but at a lower cost. This could easily be the best face moisturizer for acne prone sensitive skin.

Elta MD UV Clear SPF 46

This product is both a sunscreen and a moisturizer, which is always a beneficial combination. However, it provides an even more exciting double benefit.

While the formula is moisturizing our skin with hyaluronic acid, it is also clearing our pores and reducing shine using lactic acid. This is a very lightweight lotion, which may be worn alone or under makeup, and is perfect for acne prone or sensitive complexions.

Buyers seem to love it.

The only complaint worth noting with Elta MD is whether the sunscreen is actually as strong as it claims, so it may be necessary to supplement it if out in the sun for longer periods of time.

Body Merry Retinol Surge Moisturizer

This moisturizer is, as the name implies, a Retinol product. While often thought of only as an anti-aging ingredient, Retinol has been shown to be effective in reducing acne.

The beauty of this product is that it combines the Retinol with natural and organic ingredients, which excel at keeping skin hydrated. And since it is both facial cream and serum, it provides great nourishment to the skin while keeping breakouts to a minimum.

Users of all age groups seem to absolutely love this product; it’s hard to find any complaints about the results! The lotion is also cruelty-free and made in the United States.

LAVO Daily Moisturizer Cream

This is another product that comes with the added benefit of anti-aging effects. It contains botanical ingredients that help trap moisture in your skin, keeping it softer, smoother and fresh looking.

I really love the fact that so many natural ingredients are found in this cream. A product of the Chamomile plant, Azulene, forms an ultra-thin protective layer on your skin, which creates a barrier against bacteria and all the many pollutants that can clog your pores. And, of course, those are the things which cause blackheads, whiteheads and pimples.

But look at all of the other ingredients! What a gentle way to treat your skin.

  • Ginseng, Sage, Rosemary and Hops are used to tighten pores, while helping to tone and refine your skin.
  • Aloe Vera soothes and heals.
  • Avocado Oil, Wheat Germ, Safflower and Hazelnut are all included, not only to protect your skin, but also to help retain moisture.
  • Vitamins A, B, C and D are added because they calm inflammation and renew skin, as well as minimize pores.

And wait, there’s more to love!

This cream contains no parabens so it’s non-scented and non-greasy. Additionally, no animal testing was done in manufacturing this product.

It can be used day and night, by men and women. And, fortunately, it is one of those products which can be used on all types of skin especially oily acne prone skin.

All of these products successfully achieve the goals of hydrating skin while not clogging pores with oily ingredients. Some of them provide sunscreen along with moisturizing while others provide significant anti-aging benefits. In essence, everyone has ample options to best suit their preferences.
